Beatrix Ferrand:A Celebrated Landscape Designer

Session 3 of the 2017 Home Gardening Lecture Series - 2.0 LA HSW CREDITS HOURS WILL BE AWARDED

Ann Clevens Symmes and Karen Smythe will share their knowledge about Beatrix Farrand, her multifaceted garden designs and their project to restore the Beatrix Farrand Garden at Bellefield in Hyde Park, NY. Beatrix Farrand (1872-1959) was among the first professional American women landscape designers. As a founding member of the American Society of Landscape Architects, her influence helped define American taste in gardens during the first half of the 20th Century. Her strong design principles and masterful use of plants have much to teach us about beautiful sustainable landscapes.

Anne Clevens Symmes is a horticulturist and Karen Smythe is Executive Director for the Beatrix Farrand Garden Association.

Directions to St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church Parish House, 382 Cantitoe Road, Bedford, NY 10506:

From I-684 (North or South) take Exit 4.Turn onto Rte. 172 East towards Bedford.At the traffic light where Rte. 22 joins 172 turn left and continue to follow 22 North 2.7 miles through Bedford Village.Church will be on the right.

Fee

$18 per lecture ($20 at door) or $90 for the entire 2017 Home Gardening Lecture Series
