Home Invasion: The Story of Overwintering Pests

  • Thursday, October 15, 2015, 9:15 AM - 11:45 AM

What is an overwintering pest? How do overwintering pests that only seek shelter differ from most structural pests?  What are they looking for in the structures they enter and what are their behaviors? What secondary pest problems can they cause and what structural features are more attractive to them? In addition to answering these questions, this first session will discuss current regulations regarding pesticide applications and information on biological and mechanical control options for the multicolored Asian lady beetle, boxelder bug, western conifer seed bug, brown marmorated stink bug, cluster fly, and kudzu bug.*

Following the above one hour portion of the program, a separate half hour session on inspection of structures will be given with detailed information on what to look for regarding potential points of entry and other pertinent information relative to a variety of structure scenarios.

*Note that NYS DEC Industrial, Institutional, Structural and Health Subcategory 7a Structural and Rodent credits have been applied for regarding the first one hour session.
